DARIEN, Conn. – The Middlesex Quiz Bowl team continues to excel in national and international competitions, and it will get another chance to compete Jan. 29 when Middlesex hosts the Charter Oak Scholastic Open.
The team placed 22nd out of 545 teams from all over the world at the Knowledge Master Open last month. The Charter Oak Scholastic Open will feature schools from all over Connecticut, as well as New York and Boston.
Team members meet once a week to practice with coordinators Ken Romeo and Barbara Ivey to prepare for the academic tournaments. The team regularly competes in National Academic Quiz Tournaments, which tests the students on subjects across the entire middle school curriculum as well as special events, sports and pop culture.
The teams are asked questions that require both individual knowledge and team collaboration. Each student focuses on a different area of expertise to cover a wide spectrum of knowledge.
The Middlesex Middle School Quiz Bowl team members are: Jack Lavin, Sarishka Desai, Porter Bowman, Tommy Paul, Michael Borecki, Sarah Lehan, Teresa Du, Arija Forsyth, J.P. Barce, Brendan Berrigan, Julia Chow, Jonathon Stimpson and Brendan Mahoney.
The team plans to participate in the next international Knowledge Master Open on April 25.
