DARIEN, Conn. – Darien’s girls finished second and the boys took sixth Thursday at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Complex in New Haven.

The girls compiled 74 points and lost a tight battle with Greenwich, which finished with 92.  Darien’s boys compiled 25. Staples won the championship with 107.

Catherline Lacy won the long jump for the Blue Wave’s only individual victory. Leah Hotchkiss and Lacy went 2-3 in the high jump, and Grace Loh took second in the 1,000 in strong individual performances. Lacy was also third in the 55 meter dash. The team of Caity Lowden, Elisabeth Lowe, Sarah Colon and Caroline Weihs took third in the 4 x 800 relay. The sprint medley took third with Daniela Dunn, Sherry Gilronan, Cassidy Stauffer and Weihs. Jessica Thornbury, Maddie Schneider and Eleanor Smith went 3-4-5 in the pole vault.

Michael Johnston finished fourth in the 1,600 for the boys. Nicholas Lombardo was second in the long jump, and Will Lochtefeld took second in the shot put. Lombardo was also fifth in the high jump.
