DARIEN, Conn. – Seventh-graders at Middlesex Middle School donned the colorful costumes of Latin American characters they had researched in social studies as part of a Latin America Day celebration. The event was a culmination of three months of study.

Students gave presentations on their characters and why each was important. They also interviewed each other about their characters.

After the presentations, the students were served a Latin American lunch, courtesy of Mi Casitas in Norwalk. They also learned some popular Latin dances, including the salsa and the meringue. Students were hesitant at first about dancing but eventually got into the rhythm of their new dance moves.
