STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Skating Club of Southern Connecticut has been selected as a recipient of a development grant to attract young skaters to the sport. The club is affiliated with Terry Conners Rink in Stamford and the Darien Ice Rink.
The grant was announced by U.S. Figure Skating and will be used to encourage and inspire new generations of figure skaters. The Skating Club of Southern Connecticut was one of 12 skating clubs in the U.S. to receive the Hauff and Dreeland Community Development Grant.
Through the grant, the club will host a Basic Skills Competition for beginning figure skaters. The Skating Club is planning the event for Saturday, March 24, at Terry Conners Rink. The competition details will be available this fall. The 2012 Southern Connecticut Basic Skills Competition will be judged by U.S. Figure Skating officials and will be open to skaters from beginner to preliminary levels. This event will give skaters an opportunity to showcase their skills by performing specific elements with or without music.
